Every 0.1°C matters. And so does every decision we make now.
As Jo Hendy, CEO of the Climate Change Commission shared in our recent webinar on economic resilience grounded in trusted climate science, the window to hold warming to 1.5°C is almost closed.
The focus is no longer just ambition, it’s about making smarter decisions, informed by credible, trusted information with integrity. Information that enables organisations to drive efficiencies, manage risk, and collectively grow our economy.
As Dr Alison Collins, Departmental Chief Science Advisor at the Ministry for the Environment, reiterated, navigating our new climate reality requires a clear understanding of hazards, exposure, and vulnerability.
“Trusted climate and hazard science is a lever for better investment, faster decisions and stronger, more resilient communities - both our economic resilience, our community resilience and the way that we function.”
Cat Rowe, Head of Nature Impact & Policy at Silver Fern Farms, stressed that waiting for perfect certainty isn’t a strategy. Moving forward, even as the data picture sharpens, is critical.
Dr Alex Thompson, Chief Science Strategy Officer at Earth Sciences NZ also highlighted we’re fortunate to have access to more customisable data for different organisations and industries.
The takeaway was clear: organisations that invest early, plan for multiple futures, and use trusted evidence will be better positioned for what’s ahead – and what’s here now.
A huge thank you to our guest speakers for sharing their insights.
