Nature is not just a cost to be managed – it’s an asset to invest in - one that underpins our economy, climate resilience and long-term wellbeing.
Despite global commitments, funding for nature continues to fall short in Aotearoa New Zealand and worldwide. But there are clear signs that investment is delivering returns. PwC’s 28th Annual Global CEO Survey (2025) found that one in three CEOs saw increased revenue from climate-friendly investments, and two-thirds reported reduced or neutral cost impacts.
The same logic applies to nature. Whether through regenerative land use, biodiversity restoration, or nature-based solutions, investing in nature generates value for businesses, communities and future generations.
If we want to shift from crisis response to enduring prosperity, we need to treat nature like the critical infrastructure it is - and finance it accordingly.
