Natural infrastructure are nature-based solutions which collectively address economic, environmental and social challenges effectively and adaptively. And the need is great.
Our natural capital plays a significant role in supporting our aspirations for a productive and enduring economy, as well as in building resilience and responding to climate change. But without a co-ordinated long-term plan to support the mainstream use of, and investment in our natural capital, our economy is at risk.
With the support of our Partners and other leaders, we’re in the early stages of developing a sound economic business case for natural infrastructure. We envisage the Natural Infrastructure Plan will also demonstrate other benefits such as building resilience across our key economic sectors and infrastructure assets.
It will also identify innovative options for our key economic sectors to support market-led natural infrastructure investment opportunities that deliver multiple benefits over the long-term.
The Natural Infrastructure Plan will be finalised through dialogue and discussion with executive and CEO Partner leaders, key stakeholders and our Rangatahi Advisory Panel.

This was a question posed in our webinar update on our development of a Natural Infrastructure Plan for New Zealand. Infrastructure enables vital services that drive a productive economy, safeguards communities, helps achieve broader environmental goals and supports our wellbeing. But so too does nature.
