Natural Infrastructure Plan

Aotearoa New Zealand’s economy depends on healthy natural systems but without long-term planning and investment, our natural infrastructure is at risk.

While the New Zealand Infrastructure Commission develops a 30-Year Plan for built infrastructure, The Aotearoa Circle and our Partners are working towards a complementary plan for our natural infrastructure - the foundation for our shared prosperity.

Through the 2025 Fenwick Forum, we’re convening leaders from business and government to co-create a 30-Year Natural Infrastructure Plan including identifying a pipeline of high-impact, investable projects as well as policy, funding and governance settings required to protect and restore our natural capital. The intention is to socialise the resulting plan in December 2025.

Fenwick Forum 2020

The Fenwick Forum was initiated in COVID-19 lockdown with a focus on ensuring a balanced recovery that considers our natural capital.

The Fenwick Forum was named after the late Sir Rob Fenwick who co-founded The Aotearoa Circle. Sir Rob had a unique ability to not only ‘see the complexity’ associated with systems level change but also to ‘cut through the complexity’ and identify pragmatic actions that could move New Zealand forward in a way that supports a productive, sustainable and inclusive economy.
