Sustainable Agriculture Finance Initiative

Accelerating investment in sustainable farming is critical for Aotearoa New Zealand with agriculture, our country’s largest economic earner, highly exposed to climate impacts like droughts, floods and shifting growing conditions.

In 2021, The Aotearoa Circle launched the Sustainable Agriculture Finance Initiative (SAFI) to accelerate investment and future proof the sector. Led by a steering group including major banks - ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac and Rabobank - alongside the Ministry for Primary Industries with secretarial support from EY, the resulting guidance is intended to encourage investment, align global frameworks and encourage best farming practices.
