December 2022 Tourism Adaptation Roadmap Progress Update

Our visitor economy workshops are now complete. Over the last six weeks we have been refining the final version of the Adaptation Roadmap. This has involved bringing together our leadership group to define the vision, mission and objectives for the roadmap, of which a summary is below. Our Adaptation Roadmap is guided by our values and follows the six principles of the Tiwaiwaka Framework:

Figure One: Our Tourism Adaptation Roadmap, vision, and mission.

Figure Two: Our guiding principles that support our Adaptation Roadmap, the Tiwaiwaka Framework; gifted by Pa Ropata for this kaupapa.

As we enter the final phases of work the Secretariat PwC has been working internally with their graphics team to design the final report that has been sent to our co-chairs for the final gloss review. In preparation of launching the workstream, our report, and the Adaptation Roadmap we have also started to socialize our mahi with our wider stakeholders:

  1. 9th of November
An update presentation delivered to the National Party with representatives Nicola Willis - Deputy Leader of the National Party and Finance Spokesperson and Scott Simpson - MP for Coromandel Region

  2. 10th of November
The Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) Summit held in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton; delivering our soft-launch presentation alongside a number of tourism operators and subject matter expert.

The Secretariat is looking forward to an exciting final stages of this mahi - see below for key upcoming dates

  • December/January: Initial report distribution

2023 Q1:

  • Sector conversations to take the actions forward, including through initiatives run by regional tourism organisations

  • Environment Phase of the Industry Transformation Plan will nest this adaptation roadmap in its broader scope of supporting the tourism industry to understand and respond to climate change (adaptation and mitigation) and create positive environmental outcomes
